Meet Our Owner
Valerie L. Allen
I am a mother, entrepreneur and a retired Chicago Police Investigator, a woman consistently on a mission to improve personally and professionally. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
I was motivated to enter the field of Real Estate by my uncle who is a broker, we had many conversations about the vast opportunities in this profession. In 1984 I started working with him, learning how to identify and assess properties that would be suitable for purchase and rehab while giving a desirable return upon sell. In 1988, I purchased my first property that I rehabbed and later sold, moving forward I increased my portfolio to 12 projects over the years while always striving to increase my knowledge and researching areas that presented opportunities for growth in the real estate industry.
In 1985, I joined the Chicago Police Department as a sworn officer, while with the department I had the opportunity to work in various areas at many positions, until retiring as an Investigator in 2010. During my years with the department, I had the chance to really delve into how the changing demographics of certain areas effected the real estate market, watching those areas where my grandparents and parents lived during their younger ages to now seeing how those changes have impacted the viability of real estate long term, as well as the impact it had on the African American community who were vastly displaced.
In 2014, I formed my first real estate business where my initial focus was on purchase and rehab. Although I had done multiple purchase rehab projects, I saw the need for a more involved presence for African American women in the field of development. In 2017 I did extensive research on where women had or had not made significant impacts in the real estate industry, while concentrating on Chicago as my hub. Based upon the knowledge I gained, in 2017 I embarked upon what would ultimately be two current development projects in Chicago and created my parent company Chicago Homes One.
I am driven to break the glass ceiling for women of color in real estate development; through education, training, apprentice/mentorship programs and other partnerships. It is my vision that Chicago Homes One will be a premier African American woman owned and operated real estate development company that will create projects in various cities and states, thus impacting the real estate industry. Our company will offer scholarships, internships and other opportunities for not only minorities but other ethnicities with our focus on women. Chicago Homes One has an experienced team of project managers, architects, contractors, real estate brokers, financial planners, and other pertinent partners.
I believe that you should lead by example, I continue to expand myself and my abilities and look forward to making this company a family business to teach the importance of generational wealth and knowledge while making its mark in the coming future.
